Home Remedies For Aches And Pains
If you are suffering from a cold or flu, you may be looking for a more gentle way to relieve the symptoms. The cost of the medicine is high and the list of side effects is enough to make you want to just curl up and hide.
So, before you go out and spend too much money on over the counter medicines, here are a few things for you to stock up on. You may be surprised what you may already have on hand that will help with everything from the pesky sniffle to every day aches and pains.
If you have a throbbing knee or other joint, apply a hot compress on the affected area. If you find yourself with sinus blockage, add some eucalyptus to the compress for relief.
To shorten the time a cold will be hanging around, be sure to add vitamins C, D and Zinc to your day. Also, adding lemon to your hot tea or water will help as well and be sure to stay warm and sweat out the germs.
It is no accident that you are seeing more and more medicines with honey and lemon among the ingredients. But you can get the same healing effects at home for a fraction of the cost. Simply add the juice of a lemon to a glass of hot water and mix in a little honey to take care of a sore throat.
If your lips are sore and your nose is chapped as frequently happens with a cold, use some petroleum jelly or lip balm on the effected area for immediate relief.
If you find yourself with watery eyes and a dripping nose, look for a glass of hot water and half an onion. Simply dunk the onion for a couple of seconds and allow the water to cool and drink it through out the day. For night time relive, place a freshly cut onion next to your head so you can breath in the smell all night.
If you have spent too much time in the sun and your eyes are sore, take a beaten egg white and place it on a cloth and cover your eyes with it. Leave it on overnight for the best results.
Even though it is unpleasant to talk about, we have all suffered from diarrhea. When you find yourself in this situation, take some brown vinegar as this will usually fix the problem. Even though it may take a will of steal to make yourself take the vinegar, it is worth the effort. Also, it is in most of the cupboards in America so you won’t have to worry about having money on hand to buy some.
When you find that you are having trouble sleeping for several nights in a row, you may need to make a few changes to fix the problem. Start with cutting caffeine out of your diet starting in late afternoon. And, even though this may sound backward, go to bed earlier rather than later. If you wait until exhaustion has started to set in, the sleep you get will not be as restful. Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark and cool. Also, check the fabric content of the sheets you are sleeping on. If they are not wool or cotton, make the switch. The fabrics will allow our body to breath.
For occasional sleeplessness, try making some lemongrass tea or chamomile. Lemongrass can be easily grown in your garden or in a pot on the window sill for easy picking. Simply allow the lemongrass to steep for about five minutes, and add a little honey for sweetener if desired.
And, of course, there is all ways warm milk for a sleepless night, or just to lull you into a good nights sleep.
As with any type of home remedy, consult your doctor if the illness or problem persists.
